Though there is no a diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Israel, both countries established a military cooperation during Soeharto era. The cooperation has been expanding to privagte sectors when the late President Abdurrahman Wahid lifted trade ban between Indonesia and Israel.

For Ayub Kara, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjami Netanyau's confidant for lobbying Arab and muslim countries, Indnesia is an important market for various technologies from Israel. Therefore, the former minister of communication hopes there will be an offcial relatinship between Israel and Indonesia.

"All countries in the world need Israel with different techologies, like in agriculture, cyber security, etc," said Ayub Kara in an exclusive interview by phone with Faisal Assegaf from Albalad.co on last Thursday. "It is very necessary for Indonesia to cooperate with Israel on these issues."

Excerpts:

How important Indonesia for Israel?

I think all the Islam world must cooperate with Israel gainst teror, islamization. Iran is only the enemy of the world, excatly the Islam world, because they want to occupy first of all the Islam world. This is agenda of the regime in Iran.

I think it is the issue around the new courses that we found now in Middle East that Israel becomes friendly with most of these states. Some have warm relationship with Israel openly and secretly.

I think Indonesia is an important market for Israel's technology. I hope we will quickly find a cooperation between two countries like other Arab states, such as Jordan, Egypt, Turkey.

If I was invited to Indonesia, I will bring a big business delegation because I am now the head of the Center for Economic Cooperation for Peace between Israel and Arab and muslim countries.

Have you been in Indonesia?

I never visited Indonesia but if I was invited, I will do it. It is important for me to visit Indonesia, also important for my job as a head of the Center for Economic Cooperation for Peace between Israel and Arab and muslim countries.

Do you know about some Indonesian offcials have visited Israel?

I know that a lot of Indonesians visit Israel.

Why do you think Indonesia should have a formal relationship with Israel?

All countries in the world need Israel with different technologies, like in agriculture, cyber security, etc. It is very necessary for Indonesia to cooperate with Israel on these issues. I think both side will feel better when we do this such cooperation.

Do you believe there will be a diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Israel?

Why not? I think that must happen. For me, what is the problem between Israel and Indonesia? The religious is not a problem for us. The citizen must feel good in every country, this is the issue.

Indonesia as a muslim country must looking about what is important for their citizens, not what about the problem between Israel and other muslim countries.

Do you know there is already relations on private sectors between Israel and Indonesia?

Yes, I know there are lot of businesses between Israel and Indonesia. I hope the level of the level of this relationship will become stronger and official. There is no problem between Indonesia as a muslim country and Israel as a Jewish country.

Do you think if Gus Dur had a long tenure as president, there will be an offical relationship between Indonesia and Israel?

I think now it is the time for Indonesia to think what is better for its citizens, not what is better for politicians. It is necessary for Indonesia citizens to have a good and formal relatinship with Israel, like India, China, etch. They need us.

All countries in the world need us because we have the important tehcnologies in different areas. This is the necessity for most of the states.

Do you realize that the issue of Palestine always be the main obstacle for Indonesia to establish a diplomatic relationship with Israel?

The issue of Palestine is not relevant now. In the Middle East, they stop to speak about the issue of Palestine. For Middle East countries, the problem is Iran. Of course, Iran is the enemy for the states all around us. They do not care about Pakestinians anymore.

We never occupy the state of Palestine. There is no the state of Palestine in the past. Around 90 percents of Jordan population is Palestinians, Gaza was part of Egypt, and West Bank was part of Jordan.
